By Paul Jones

Nine runners have been declared for this Class 2 handicap over 1m4f which is having its sixth running so trends are thin on the ground. The favourite (or joint-favourite), however, has triumphed on three of the five occasions thus far.

A three-year-old took the opening running but it’s been older horses all the way since then winning on all four occasions from 21 runners since the outset. Early days though and three-year-olds tend to be favoured in 1m4f+ handicaps in the autumn. Three-year-olds are 1-12 and the hat-trick seeking Labeeb is their only contender following two very comfortable successes at Newmarket and Windsor by 4¾l and 3¾l respectively.

Horses rated 90+ have won the last three renewals and carried no less than 9st 10lb in the process so class has certainly come to the fore of late. Carrying over 9st 10lb are Laafy, Look Closely chasing a hat-trick, and On To Victory who caught the eye on his seasonal return in third at the York Ebor Festival.

Also note a high draw as four of the five winners were drawn in either of the widest two stalls in what were all seven-or-eight runner handicaps.Laafy and Labeeb are drawn widest this year.
