Alan King has won the last two runnings of this Listed handicap over an extended 1m7f with five-year-olds (and he also won with the year-older Raya Star in 2012) and is responsible for the top weight, Lisp, who finished runner-up in the big handicap over C/D here in December who is just one of four five-year-old entries this season.

That could be significant as five-year-olds have won five of the last six runnings and Sternrubin and Elgin have carried 11st 10lb+ to victory in this handicap in two of the last three seasons.

Watch Ascot live on Sky Sports Racing (Sky 415 | Virgin 535) on Saturday 2nd November.

Nicky Henderson (a winner and two places from nine runners) and Paul Nicholls (the same win and place record from one less runner) have the next best training records in the last decade (both also won it once the previous decade) but also note Nick Gifford (his Didtheyleaveuoutto is 2-3 for Ascot) as two of his three runners in the same time frame have hit the frame.

Three six-year-olds have won in the last decade but the record of contenders aged 7+ is 0-34 and just two of those have placed. In fact, horses aged between 4-6 have won the last 16 runnings.

Favourites have a good record with seven (including joint and co favs) obliging in the last 15 runnings.

Three of the last five winners had the benefit of a run earlier in the season but, over a longer period of time, nine of the last 15 winners were seasonal debutants.
