SATURDAY'S PLACEPOT AND JACKPOT PERM
It feels like a card for which fortune favours the brave, hence the flurry of single selections, and, as such, I’m going to have a swing at the Jackpot itself with the same perm. I like the different angle with ALPINE STAR in the Coronation Stakes with her coming in fresh when everything else has run hard in the last month, and I’ve a feeling that we might see rather more of the 2-y-o version of PINATUBO now that he’s back away from Newmarket and back around a bend, while SCEPTICAL looks impossible to kick out of the three in the Diamond Jubilee. They might have missed out on the main event, the Wokingham itself, but SWINDLER and APLOMB look good for the consolation event, both looking to have been primed for this spot via eye-catching comebacks. As far as the 2-y-o races are concerned, MORE BEAUTIFUL was so good at Naas that she already looks to have one hoof on the Queen Mary, but the Coventry for the colts looks more competitive, though I liked what I saw from DARK LION and QAADER on their first starts.

WIN AND PLACE BETS
A smaller-stakes perm on the multi-race bet like the Placepot allows for a bit of creativity in the Wokingham, and so I’m firing two arrows at it, with win and place bets on both. ARECIBO has his name on a big handicap this year, and his record at Ascot (close second on both starts) suggests this could well be his day, with a far-reaching reappearance under his belt, and DAZZLING DAN boasted some especially strong form last year, including a win second time up, encouraging for him rebounding from his reappearance again this term.
4.10 WIN AND PLACE: 7 (DAZZLING DAN), 13 (ARECIBO)
WIN ONLY BET
He’s something of an all-or-nothing horse, the reason for a win only bet on him, but THE GRAND VISIR ought to be in his element in the Queen Alexandra Stakes. He won the second-longest race at the Royal meeting last year (Ascot Stakes), and even that was barely enough of a test for him, but he has extra yardage to cover here, and looks to have been lined up for it by one of the best target trainers in the business.
4.40 WIN ONLY: 8 (THE GRAND VISIR)
SATURDAY'S BEST EXOTIC BET
The Diamond Jubilee isn’t so deep as usual this year, and SCEPTICAL is the standout in several regards, but the conditions have come perfectly for ONE MASTER, who proved her worth as a sprinter over this course and distance in the Champions Sprint last back-end, and so I’m banking on her to chase home the Irish improver.
