Ground conditions will determine whether Century Dream steps back up in class in the Betfred Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot.

Next weekend’s Group Two prize, in which son of Cape Cross finished fourth two years ago, is one of two options under consideration for the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained six-year-old – along with the Group One Prix d’Ispahan at Chantilly nine days later.

Century Dream gained his first victory since the Diomed Stakes at Epsom in 2018 when he won the same Group Three – rearranged at Newbury – on his seasonal return last month.

Ed Crisford said: “We are looking at the Summer Mile for Century Dream, but we want the rain. If we don’t go there, we could head to the Prix d’Ispahan.

“The ground will tell us where we go.

“We will have him ready for either race and we will make a decision near the time.”

Century Dream had run well a number of times in defeat following his first Diomed success two years ago, but Crisford expects his second victory in the race to give him renewed confidence.

“It was a great performance and it was nice to see him get his head back in front,” he added.

“We wanted to give him a confidence booster, and that is exactly what it has done.

“He has done very well since the race, and we are looking forward to getting him out again soon.”
